While they often seem happy to those they meet, they confide to you that their marriage and children have been suffering for years because of the amount of ministry to which they have committed themselves. Sam and Sue also mention that they have tried so hard to do so much to please God, but they feel like failures, and they are just ready to give up and leave the church because they feel burnt out. Sam asks, “How can we find rest and peace in our lives?” Scenario 3 Bernard has been involved in several churches, though he does not attend frequently and never really stays at one church for a very long time. Over lunch, he tells you that he just can’t commit to a church because all the churches he has attended are hypocritical and judgmental.
